Liszt: 12 Études d'exécution transcendante ( CD Deutsche Grammophon 477 8362)
Alice Sara Ott, Piano
"Every phrase is well thought out, tempos are dealt with without the "faster is better" approach, everything in this recording seems well placed.
The delicate "Will o the Wisp" in No.5, "Ricordanza" and the gentle, falling snow in "Chasse-Neige" have never sounded so beautiful, she creates breadth and dimension within the notes.
Whereas the surging "Mazeppa" and "Wilde Jagd" shows that Ott is definetly not scared to show the thunder she can create. The other 7 are all equally brilliant.
I cannot recommend this recording enough - especially if you are trying to avoid clamoring, self indulgent playing.
Ott takes these Etudes and transforms them into musical impressions/poems.
A must buy! "
