ID3v2.3/4 Tags - ist Windows böse?

Hallo Ulli,

davon höre/lese ich das erste Mal. Weder auf WinXP (SP3) noch auf Win7 habe ich "böse Erfahrungen" mit Tags gemacht. Bei mir wurde nie etwas angetastet. Vielleicht liegt es daran, dass eine meiner ersten Amtshandlungen nach einer Neuinstallation des Betriebssystems darin besteht, den Windows Mediaplayer zu deinstallieren - falls es überhaupt daran liegt.

vielleicht liegen die unterschiedlichen Erfahrungen ja einfach auch in der Art der verwendeten Dateien. Mit flac mag Win/Win-Mediaplayer ja von Haus aus nicht, und wav wird nicht getaggt. Wer also mit diesen Varianten arbeitet, dürfte kaum auf das verhandelte Problem stoßen.

meinst Du damit, dass dies nur getaggte MP3- oder WMA-Dateien betrifft? Das könnte eine schlüssige Erklärung sein, und insofern könnte man für die audiophilen WAV- und FLAC-Hörer eine grundsätzliche Entwarnung geben.

@Uli: kannst Du etwas dazu sagen, ob die von Dir erwähnten Postings sich auf bestimmte File-Formate bezogen?

ja, das war mein erster Verdacht. Aber ich argwöhne mittlerweile, dass auch schlicht und ergreifend die Konfiguration des WMP Ursache sein könnte. Ich könnte mir gut vorstellen, dass der zuschlägt, wenn er Medieninfos aus dem Internet nachladen darf. Ich habe das aber nicht überprüft. Aber JRiver schlägt ja bei diesbezüglicher Konfiguration auch hemmungslos zu. Mir hat's jedenfalls bei Deaktivierung dieser "Nachladefunktion" noch keine tags zerlegt, auch nicht bei mp3.

Hallo zusammen,

Flac wird nicht mit ID3 Tags getaggt sondern mit Flac Vorbis Tags. Wav kann man gar nicht taggen da gibts nix zum löschen oder zerschießen

ID3 Tags sind primär für das MP3 Format gedacht.

Davon ab ist mir bisher noch nie etwas aufgefallen das Windows irgendwas an denTags(auch nicht bei mp3 Files) ändert.

Keine Ahnung, wahrscheinlich hat sich mal wieder einer nicht an den Standard gehalten...
Es gibt auch Programme die ID3 Tags in Flac Files reinprügeln. Kein wunder das die richtige
Erkennung von Tags ein reines Glücksspiel geworden ist...

WAV can be perfectly tagged.
A matter of writing tags in a INFO chunk.
Even WMP does (at rip time only, you can’t change them afterwards)

However the standard support very few tags of relevance to the user.
A couple of applications solve this by writing IDV3 tags in a chunk at the bottom of the file.

WAV lässt sich anscheinend , wenn auch nur in gewissen Grenzen, "taggen"

Mit Audacity lassen sich gewisse Metadaten auch nachträglich ändern:

In current Audacity you can edit the metadata for WAV files as you would any other file. The data is exported in a RIFF INFO chunk in the file. However, few player programs are able to read this RIFF chunk data. The following fields only are supported in Audacity:

Artist (IART)
Title (INAM) - called "Track Title" in Metadata Editor
Date Created (ICRD) - called "Year" in Metadata Editor
Comments (ICMT)
Copyright (ICOP)
Software (ISFT)

Genre (IGNR) is not supported although it is a valid RIFF INFO field because the libsndfile library we use for WAV import/export does not support it. Custom tags (other than "Copyright" and "Software") are not supported.

Agreed but as you can see in the Audacity list a crucial tag like Album is missing.
Almost all media players use this tag to group tracks into an album.
If you stick to this standard you simply don’t have albums

Yes Vincent that is right, but the easiest way ist to use FLAC(or any other lossles format) instead of WAV.

On your webpage you wrote:

Again, when moving to another media player you run the risk of losing all information.

Thats what i mean...

Do you know about the problem with ID3 Tags and Windows (see first post) ? Is there a danger for other formats like FLAC etc. ?

FLAC is a simple case, Win doesn’t support it.
You need a third party tool like WMPTag Support Extender to tag FLAC in WMP.
Beside it looks like this is most of all a ID3 issue and FLAC doesn’t use it, it uses OGG Vorbis comments.

It might very well be that Win doesn’t support ID2.4 or has problems with non-standard tags.
So if you use WMP or the Explorer to tag MP3 containing 2.4 tags it might fail.
But I never use these tools to tag

I use easytag and ripperX (with cdparanoia backend) for tagging and ripping under Linux.
I need Windows(with Jriver Mediacenter) only for playing...

I use dbPoweramp for ripping and format conversion.
A pity its PerfectMetadata is only available at rip time.
MP3Tag occasionally for tagging (internet databases)
JRiver for playback and manual tagging.
Audio is a mixture of FLAC and MP3.
