Empfehlung für optisches Laufwerk
It is not exactly clear what you have disabled but do put error correction on in the Rip settings. This is a kind of “secure” mode probably forcing iTunes to re-read bad sectors. http://www.thewelltemperedcomputer.com/SW/OSX/Ripping.htm A couple of iTunes alternatives can be found here: http://www.t...

Empfehlung für optisches Laufwerk
Plextor has a very good reputation but they don’t build their optical drives them self anymore.
It is simply a rebadged OEM drive.
If this is about ripping CDs my advice would be to use dbPoweramp/AccurateRip.
Probably any decent optical drive will give you a bit perfect rip.

Vergleich von Speicherformaten (Audio-Codecs)
Important when ripping a CD: Lossless for maximum quality Tags for documentation. WAV can be tagged but due to a lack of standards portability is low. If you go for Mac/iTunes an Apple supported format like ALAC or AIFF is a must If you go for Win/WMP you better choose WMAL In all other cases I do t...

NAS oder RipNAS - das ist hier die Frage
This is a nice one too: http://vortexbox.org/about/uli.brueggemann hat geschrieben:als Betriebssystem wird das FreeNAS 8.0 verwendet.
Squeezeserver, DLNA, DAAP, etc.
Probably very apt for audio

NAS oder RipNAS - das ist hier die Frage
RipNas is a great product but I wouldn’t buy it. For ripping it uses that Mount Everest of ripping software: dbPoweramp. Personally I rather have (and do have) dbPoweramp on my PC. I like to inspect the tags after the rip. After you have ripped your entire collection, why does one need a RipNas? I s...

Digitale Schnittstellen Einfach, Teil 2: FireWire
I don’t see a controversy, I’m simply struggling to get my facts right. Using a forum to discuss things is an excellent way to understand how things work. For me busses like USB or IEEE 1394 are most of all complex and not easy to understand. This http://www.beyondlogic.org/usbnutshell/usb1.shtml I ...

Digitale Schnittstellen Einfach, Teil 2: FireWire
The way I read Weiss is that he claims the reserved bandwidth to be an advantage of Firewire over USB. USB also reserves bandwidth in isochronous mode. -I dont think you take the ASIO Mode into your statement here..... I know your articles of faith but whatever audio driver you choose, it won’t alte...

Digitale Schnittstellen Einfach, Teil 2: FireWire
(in Wirklichkeit heisst es isochronous) No, reality is a bit different. Both Firewire and USB can be used in isochronous mode. This is the mode intended to be used for streaming AV. Both reserve a fixed bandwidth in this mode. (Weiss is not correct on this aspect). Isochronous mode generates a quas...

Digitale Schnittstellen Einfach, Teil 2: FireWire
What is “Praxis”? The problem is we don’t hear SPDIF, AES/EBU, USB adaptive, USB async, Firewire but always the implementation. That is praxis. All these implementations varies in quality. DACs with both Firewire and USB are rare. Lots of DACs with SPDIF and USB. Most of the time a very cheap 16/48 ...

Digitale Schnittstellen Einfach, Teil 2: FireWire
Firewire and USB have a couple of things in common • Both are capable of bit perfect transmission • Both can induce input jitter • Both can be used in adaptive and asynchronous mode. The big difference is that all major OS (Win, OSX, Linux) do have a native mode USB audio class 1 driver. (OSX and Li...

If you are using Toslink, this is the limit imposed by Apple on this bus.

Sind analoge Schnittstellen besser als digitale?
Terrific post Uli
Never seen the impact of SRC demonstrated so nicely
Thanks
BTW: if this would have be done in 64 (common in pro-software) or 128 float, would the impact be less dramatic?

16 vs. 24 Bit-Auflösung?
The formula is SNR=6N+1.8 dB (N in bits)
So the dynamic range of 16 bits is 6x16=96 and 6*24=144 (forget that 1.
You made the right "Denkfehler"!
